Niu Niu, is a giant panda rescued from a fight. She got badly injured and is now missing a part of her front paw. The lack of balance affects her mating, and therefore, scientists are thinking of giving her an artificial leg. To read more go here

After a failed natural breeding attempt at Memphis Zoo, Yan Yan has been artificially inseminated. Now all we can do is wait to see if she gets pregnant. To read more go here

Xiang Xiang, the only captive bred panda to be released into the wild so far has been badly injured in a fight with another wild panda. He has now gone missing, which is a big setback for China's efforts of panda conservation. To read more go here

Several panda 'villages' have been found in the Qinling mountains. These villages are made up out of a group of pandas that live in caves. The daughters are sent away at around 2 years old, and the sons stay. These then compete over the females from other 'villages'. These giant pandas are a kind of sub-species. Only 300 of them remain, out of the 1560 giant pandas in the wild. To read more go here

Pandas are very picky when it comes to their food, as Zoo Atlanta has found out. Out of the 200 types of bamboo that grow in Georgia, the pandas only like about 20 or so, and their taste varies from time to time. To read more go here

Atlanta's baby panda, stood up for the first time during a checkup on Thursday. According to the senior veterinarian it shouldn't take long now until the cub will start to follow it's mother out into the public viewing area. To read more go here

Pandas have colors vision. According to a study using the Lun Lun and Yang Yang (Atlanta Zoo), pandas don't see all the colors we do, but they can distinguish color from gray. To read more go here

Scientists have announced that a gaint panda tooth fossil has been found. It was uncovered in June, and after two months of identification work, turns out to be a giant panda tooth. This prooves that pandas once roamed over a much larger area. To read more go here

Another set of twins was born in Sichuan. However the older girl of the twins has a cleft lip. This is the first case in panda research history. The younger sister is in good condition. At around 1 year old, the panda cub will receive plastic surgery. To read more go here

Twin giant pandas Qi Zhen and Qi Yuan both gave bith to twins within two days. The chances of captive pandas to get twins is about 50%. This is because of artificial insemination. To read more go here

A male cub born in Wolong Research Center breaks two records at once. Zhang Ka went through 34 hours of labor, and gave birth to the heaviest panda cub ever in captivity. To read more go here

Atlanta Zoo thinks Lun Lun might be pregnant. Two psychics were enlisted, one telepathically connected with Lun Lun, and the other used the ancent I Ching. Both predicted Lun Lun to be pregnant. To read more go here

Chinese police caught a man in Beijing trying to sell the fur of a young panda for $30,000. He was caught when when he was about to finish the sale for 250,000 yuan. The police also found the pelt of a clouded leopard with him. To read more go here

Veterinarians and dentists are considering to give a panda three false teeth. The giant panda fell down a ravine, and had several broken bones. If its possible to give him false teeth, he'll be able to eat bamboo again. To read more go here

4 cubs were born at the Beijing Zoo, but it turned out the mother didn't have enough milk. A notice went out, and they got a huge amount of calls with wet nurses the next day. They settled for a whippet (dog), who's own young had died. She had enough milk for all the cubs, and the milk is about the same as pandas milk. To read more go here

The panda habitat has been added to the World Heritage Sites, and there is now a limit on what tourists can visit. Factories and building will be removed from panda habitat, and there are plans to connect the various habitat fragments with planted bamboo forests. To read more go here
